![]() ![]() RAGTIME involves three families and their experiences in a changing, turn-of-the-century America. ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (which is not set in the United States, but on a mythical Caribbean island) involves certain issues of class and skin color, but for me it is primarily a story about a young girl breaking away from family to find love, and challenging the very gods themselves, on the road to growing up. The stories I choose often contain themes of compassion, family, the coming together of disparate cultures, the forming of new kinds of families. "I don't write about the African-American experience, per se, I'm simply drawn to write about human beings in highly dramatic circumstances. Interestingly, but not surprisingly, it’s not the issues of race, but rather what are clearly the underlying themes which intrigue and inspire her her. MTI Marquee caught up with Lynn Ahrens to ask about this common thread in her work. Though Ahrens & Flaherty's musical ONCE ON THIS ISLAND doesn’t deal directly with experiences in the United States, its themes relate to issues of class and race and on Broadway ONCE ON THIS ISLAND's cast was comprised completely of black actors. Just as Black History Month does for Americans throughout the country, RAGTIME and DESSA ROSE ask audiences to reflect and pay respect to those who were both victims of and triumphed against social injustices. Both shows are unafraid to depict more problematic elements of America's past of and relating to Black American segregation. Through DESSA ROSE and RAGTIME (book by Terrence McNally), Ahrens (book/lyrics) & Flaherty (music) explore significant elements of the Black American experience in United States history. The writing team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens are a pair who consistently write about subject matter of this nature. Through song and story musical theatre authors can give voices to groups of people who are often otherwise marginalized. In honor of Black History Month, we're highlighting shows that deal with the national celebration's themes, and artists whose work has helped shape the diversity of musical theater history. ![]()

Divine office fm11/16/2023 ![]() A Social Services Board correlated the work of already-existing agencies, and developed an educational program aimed at coordinating efforts in Catholic schools, campus ministry, and religious education. He oversaw the creation of parish councils and education boards, allowed the laity to serve as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and formed a Sisters' Council for the nuns of the diocese. At its formation, the new diocese consisted of fifty parishes and served 128,000 Catholics.ĭuring his tenure in Orlando, Borders laid the foundations for the new diocese while also implementing the directives of the Second Vatican Council. He appointed Monsignor William Borders of the Diocese of Baton Rouge as the first bishop of Orlando. Augustine and making it a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Miami. Pope Paul VI erected the Diocese of Orlando on June 18, 1968, taking its present territory from the Diocese of St. Paul's Church was dedicated in Daytona Beach, the first Catholic church in that community. In 1881, the first Catholic church in Orlando, St. The Orlando area would remain part of the Diocese of St. Augustine, including all of Florida, was formed with Verot its first bishop. He became Bishop of Savannah in 1861 and remained Vicar Apostolic of Florida. In 1858, Augustin Verot became Vicar Apostolic of part of Georgia and all of Florida. However, seven years later, he stripped Florida from the Diocese of Savannah and created a new Apostolic Vicariate of Florida. In 1825, Pope Leo XII erected the Vicariate of Alabama and Florida, which included all of Florida.Ī quarter century later, Pope Pius IX erected the Diocese of Savannah in 1850, including the new state of Florida minus the Florida Panhandle region. For Catholics, the territory was still under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Havana. In the Adams–Onís Treaty of 1819, Spain ceded all of Florida to the United States, which established the Florida Territory in 1821. Cuban bishops resumed control after Florida was returned to Spain in 1783. They were members there of San Pedro Church until they abandoned that Atlantic coastal site in 1777 and moved north to St. The first mass migration to the New World took place when hundreds of Catholics from Menorca settled in New Smyrna in 1768. Bishops of Santiago de Cuba ministered to Catholics in Florida until 1763, when England acquired Florida from Spain. History Early history įlorida was first part of the Archdiocese of Havana, Cuba, as early as 1606. A spokesperson for the current bishop said in 2019 that he did not consider himself to be bishop of the Moon (or of the International Space Station, also launched from the diocese). If true, the total area of the diocese would be 14,657,051 square miles (37,961,590 km 2), making it the largest Catholic diocese (beating the Diocese of Saint Joseph at Irkutsk, at 3,850,000 square miles (10,000,000 km 2)).īorders is reported to have made this claim to Pope Paul VI in 1969 it is unknown whether Pope Paul VI confirmed or rejected the claim, which is required for jurisdiction to actually be granted. William Borders, the first Bishop of the diocese, called himself the "bishop of the Moon", saying that under the then-active 1917 Code of Canon Law, newly explored territory came under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the port of departure, making the Diocese of Orlando responsible for the moon following the flight of Apollo 11 from the Kennedy Space Center. There were 208 priests, 87 religious nuns, and 181 permanent deacons. In 2011, the estimated population of the diocese was approximately 400,923 Catholics. It has two minor basilicas, Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine, which ministers to Catholic tourists, and St. In 2010, the diocese contained 81 parishes, 10 missions, and 37 schools. Hybrid carbon capture technology11/16/2023 ![]() ![]() Characterization of NOHMs was conducted by employing various spectroscopic tools, such as ATR FT-IR, Raman and NMR, to confirm successful synthesis of NOHMs. In this dissertation, NOHMs were designed, synthesized and evaluated for CO2 capture properties. ![]() This study represents the first attempt to investigate CO2 capture using NOHMs. As the canopy is tethered to the core, it has been theorized that CO2 can be captured not only by the enthalpic effect via reactions with functional groups along the polymeric canopy but also by the entropic means via introduction of small gaseous molecules such as CO2 to reduce the free energy of the frustrated canopy. Such a configuration prevents loss of polymers and enables NOHMs to exhibit near zero vapor pressure. A unit of NOHMs consists of a surface-functionalized nanoparticle as a core to which selected polymers are tethered to form a canopy. To achieve this goal, a new class of CO2 capture media named Nanoparticle Organic Hybrid Materials (NOHMs) has been formulated. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop alternative CO2 capture media that can be efficient and environmentally sustainable. Although the amine-based solvents such as monoethanolamine (MEA) exhibit high CO2 capture capacity, their high volatility results in corrosive fumes and energy-intensive regeneration process. Currently, the most commonly employed approach to capture CO2 is amine scrubbing in which amine-based solvents react with gaseous CO2 to form carbamate. Given the rapid increase in atmospheric concentration of CO2, the development of efficient CO2 capture technologies is critical for the future of carbon-based energy. 2012 Theses Doctoral Design, Synthesis and Evaluation of Liquid-like Nanoparticle Organic Hybrid Materials for Carbon Dioxide Capture ![]()

Pinball near me for sale11/16/2023 ![]() Their first all original machine was created in 1946. ![]() They were able to acquire and modify existing pinball games. Williams started as a manufacturer of pinball machines in 1943. As Bally made acquisitions, namely in the amusement and casino markets, they soon found themselves low on funds and their pinball division was sold to Williams in 1988. Bally also acquired many other companies, including Midway Games. Bally continued working on pinball machines, coin operated machines, including slot machines and at one point had about 90% of the coin operated market worldwide. Bally was then bought by investors in 1963. Bally worked to improve upon all coin operated devices until it’s founder passed away in 1958. Bally began making pinball machines in 1932, when its parent company Lion Manufacturing established a pinball division. Pinball Manufacturers of the Past Ballyīally is one of the original names in pinball. ![]() Companies came and went, were sold or just closed down, but here's a list of the most influential pinball manufactures from the early days of pinball. Pinball continued to grow and change in a market, and forced companies to innovate and become competitive. Since its humble beginnings, pinball has been on the up-and-up. Pinball machines where once considered illegal because it was deemed a "game of chance" Many companies added flippers to control the ball, to aim their shot and turn pinball into a game of skill. Manufacturers were always on the lookout for how to make the game more interesting or innovative. The gold lining? Those who remained saw a resurgence in pinball manufacturing as the war ended and people wanted to get back to playing pinball.įlipper bats were then introduced to pinball machines to help keep the ball stay in play longer. Many manufacturers tried to refurbish older machines or otherwise stay relevant and by the end of WWII, only 10% of pinball manufacturers had weathered the storm. Manufacturers couldn’t use copper as it was being used overseas. Like other manufacturers, the pinball companies in the Chicago area had to assist in the war effort. During World War II, the pinball industry suffered drastically. With the ability to add electric switches and pop bumpers, the game became even more interesting and wild. The introduction of coin operation allowed early pinball machines to become monetized, but the biggest leap forward in pinball came from adding electricity, flipper bats and lights. It wasn’t until the invention of springs that something like the modern day pinball table was created. In this way, the beginnings of pinball can be seen linked to games like Croquet, Golf or even horseshoes. Pinball is basically a game where you have a ball and try to hit targets. Modern Pinball has only been around for the last century or so, but the origins of pinball go back to the original creation of games! Remember, you’re not looking for cheap pinball machines, you’re looking for the best most reliable machine that will provide years of entertainment and fun. What is your budget when purchasing a pinball machine? Open AirPort Utility, click on Other WiFi Devices and make sure that there is a check mark next to Ethernet.
